Flora & Fabula

Describing her life fuel as nostalgia, Mercan is an avid collector of vintage photographs. Taken at a time when humans weren’t so used to being, neither behind, nor in front of the camera, she believes these images capture feelings that snapshots of today lack.

Left behind by their loved ones, contrary to the financially precious objects that adorned their homes; people, who once had identities become unidentifiable, and their memories unclaimed. With her project flora & fabula, Mercan draws a parallel between the fate of these photographs and the flowers she had been collecting; both obsolete objects, nostalgic and no longer living.

As someone who naturally draws links between the past and the present, Mercan is currently completing her History degree in Ankara, at the same time as working on new creative projects.
