Zey

For Zeynep, growing up in a Turkish family meant having carpets in every corner of the house and dressing from a wardrobe of hand-knitted clothes.

For most of her childhood during hot summer holidays, she’d stay with her grandmother Neruş, who created activities like embroidering flowers onto old fabrics, crocheting hats, stitching dresses for her teddy bears. Connecting with her through these activities, she installed a curiosity for material and experimentation in Zeynep.

When Zeynep came to Central St. Martins to study textiles, she sought to keep alive a sense of home through her work. Having the framework and space to explore traditional handcraft techniques from Turkey, she was excited to add her own strong personal take to what was already so familiar to her.

With her brand Zey, so far she has brought textiles together with Anatolian cultural influences, stories of Anatolian women, and Turkish Psychedelic Rock.

Zeynep’s first collection Psychedelic Anatolia is launching on November the 1st.
